Bg transmission flush cost10/17/2023 I'll replace it and the entire fluid system again in 30,000 miles. Though my car has 164,000 miles on it, I had previously replaced the transmission filter and about half of the Esso fluid a few years ago at roughly 110,000 miles, so my filter probably has quite a bit of life left in it. I suppose that I could've attached an air line and blown out the old fluid from the radiator. Of course, this did not address whatever old fluid happened to remain in the radiator, but that's probably negligible and unavoidable, under the circumstances. After a few minutes, both gauges showed nice, clear, red fluid, meaning that all of the old fluid had been removed from the system and replaced with the new fluid. Using the auxillary pump could be problematic as it might over-pressurize the transmission and rupture seals and gaskets.ĭuring the process, you could see the old fluid being drained out through a glass gauge on the top of the BG machine, with the new, clear, red fluid going in on a lower gauge. He did not use the optional pump inside the BG machine as there was already sufficient pressure in the transmission system to allow good flow (about 1.25 gallons/minute). He then started the car and turned on the BG machine. With the car on a lift, the tech then disconnected the transmission cooling lines from the radiator and attached two lines from the BG machine, taking care to remove and preserve the two little O-rings on the fittings that connected to the radiator. It's more like a fluid exchange, really (like a transfusion for your car).īefore starting, the tech drained the BG machine and filled it with 16 quarts of the Valvoline MaxLife ATF. It took about 30 minutes to get everything ready, then only about 10 minutes to do the actual flushing procedure. They didn't have the correct adapters for the cooling lines, so they used rubber hoses and hose clamps, which worked fine. My local Ford dealer, Jack Kain Ford, charged $50 for the service using the BG transmission flush machine. The Valvoline product is newer technology, too, so I'm confident that it will perform well in the long run in our transmissions. The cost was less than $4/quart at Advance Auto Parts, which is considerably less than $16/liter for the VW-branded Esso fluid (it's even more pricey at the BMW dealer). According to the label on the jug, it's a suitable replacement for the BMW/Esso LT71141 fluid. I supplied my own fluid, the Valvoline MaxLife synthetic ATF that Edwin, pdef1949 and others have used with good results. Today I followed up on the BG tranny flush from last week on my Expedition with the '97 740iL. Author: DavidC (moderator) : member since December, 2003 : 13179 posts
